The gap

AI is genuinely good at layout now. Designers brief Claude or v0, get back a clean HTML design, and then hit the wall every studio knows: the deliverable has to be InDesign, and HTML is not InDesign. So the layout gets rebuilt by hand — box by box, font by font — for an afternoon. The AI saved an hour and cost three.

idmly is the bridge across that gap. It takes the HTML the AI produced and turns it into a native, editable .idml: the file InDesign actually opens, with the styles, fonts, and frames a designer expects to keep working in.

How it works
Design in any AI tool
Claude, ChatGPT, v0 — anywhere that outputs a self-contained HTML layout.
Drop the HTML into idmly
One file. No plugins, no setup, no manual style mapping.
idmly rebuilds it as InDesign
Real fonts, named paragraph styles, editable text frames, and vector charts that stay vectors.
Open the .idml and keep working
A native InDesign file, not a flattened PDF. Everything is still editable.
idmly — HTML in, InDesign out
Not a PDF export

Anyone can export a PDF, and a PDF is where editing goes to die. idmly produces the opposite: named paragraph styles you can restyle globally, text frames you can re-flow, charts that are still vector objects. It is the difference between a screenshot of a layout and the layout itself.
